Warning design/product safety
Human factors research has found the most effective ways to design products and warnings. Design and warnings work together as a system to protect product users. Properly designed products and warning labels are imperative to minimize consumer misuse of products and to reduce legal liability.

Job hazard analysis
In industrial settings where accidents and injuries are frequent or recurring, job hazard analysis is a systematic way to identify the risk factors in a job or system. Job redesign can be implemented to reduce the likelihood of injury from those risk factors.

Ergonomics and safety training
California organizations are required to have proactive ergonomics programs in place. Ergonomics focuses on the effectiveness and efficiency in the way jobs are designed to maximize employee safety and productivity. Employee training can be developed to teach procedures that workers need to know to reduce work-related injuries including repetitive stress injuries, cumulative trauma disorders, back and neck strain, and computer-related injuries.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
When employees are injured on the job, OSHA typically will cite the organizations for safety violations.

If you have been cited, our consultants can develop remediations and respond to OSHA by implementing administrative and engineering controls aimed at eliminating the cause of injury. We can also help you develop policies and practices to prevent future accidents (see Workplace Safety Programs).

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Plans
The ADA is a Federal law containing a complex set of guidelines that govern hiring practices as well as building requirements. Organizations are required to have an ADA plan in place that addresses bringing buildings into compliance with ADA standards for accessibility. Our consultants will evaluate your facility and identify those structures that need to be upgraded so that an active ADA plan is on file.

Healthcare Worker Injury Reduction Programs
In healthcare settings, employee injuries, especially back injuries, are common. Our consultants will preform a comprehensive evaluation that includes focus groups to determine which tasks result in the most injuries. This evaluation will include job and task analyses to identify the specific parts of the job that are problematic to help us work with you to develop solutions.

Workstation Evaluations
In office settings, cumulative trauma disorders and computer-related injuries can cost organizations thousands of dollars more in workers compensation expenses than what a proactive ergonomics program would cost. We can evaluate individual employees to reduce the likelihood of their workstation design contributing to these costly injuries.

Workplace Safety Programs
All work environments should have some form of risk management or injury prevention program. Our research has investigated how organizations can most effectively channel their safety resources. An effective workplace safety program not only reduces injuries and workers compensation costs, but also has been shown to increase productivity and product quality.
